Kindergarten Promotion

Tommy is a kindergarten graduate! During the promotion ceremony all the kids sang songs. Well, most the kids. Tommy (in the back in the plaid shirt), as Dad put it, "Is not the type of monkey that likes to be told when to dance". He's such a ham around the house and at school, but singing performances are definitely not his thing.
He got a cool diploma from his teacher, Ms. Martinez, and was awarded the "Rockstar Reader" award.
We're proud of you, Frogman!
On to first grade!

Field Day

Field Day always starts off with tug-of-war between classes of the same grade. Tommy's class were the kinder champions!
And my class beat all the other 3rd grade classes!
Then there are other events like sack races, ring toss, egg-on-a-spoon, hula hooping, and relay races. Go, Kat, go!
And most importantly, at the end there were Popsicles for my buddies Charlie, Jackson, and me

Creamistry

For washing his car, Dad said he would take us to Creamistry, a new ice cream place that makes it's ice cream fresh using liquid nitrogen for a quick freeze.  See all the gas?
It smelled minty when they made our mint chip ice cream!

Father's Day

We celebrated Father's Day early since Mom was in Minneapolis at her friend Stacey's wedding for the actual Father's Day.
For pre-Father's Day we went for a sandwich (Dad's favorite food), took a hike in the Environmental Nature Center, and gave him some presents.
We got him this Star Trek frisbee. It looks like the Enterprise flying through the air when you throw it.
However, when Tommy threw it, it went straight into my forehead! I opted to wear the biggest band-aid I could find to school the next day.

Sewing

Tommy's kindergarten class learned to sew this week! Yup, you read that right: kindergarteners sewing. They had LOTS of parent helpers, and Mom said they could have used more, but some of them really got the hang of it, including Tommy! They're making a stuffed animal dolphin. Tommy sewed on the eye, then learned to stitch the 2 pieces of felt together all along the edges.
He says he chose a big button for the eye so he could make it into an opthalmasaurus dinosaur instead of a dolphin. Goofball.
The finished product looks pretty good! Nice work, Boodle!

Huntington Beach Educational Foundation Scholar Squad Reception

Katherine was nominated by her teacher to become a member of the HB Education Foundation's Scholar Squad. Teachers are allowed to nominate 1 student per class who displays many of these attributes: curiosity, academic humility, careful consideration, vision, academic responsibility, works well with others, responsibility, respect, and integrity.
The foundation held a reception last night at the Hyatt for the nominees from all schools in the district. They were called onstage, shook their principal's hand, and received a medal that they may wear at their 5th grade and 8th grade promotion ceremonies.
These are all the students nominated from Kat's school.
We're so proud of her...
And haven't forgotten that she's silly in addition to all those other wonderful qualities.

Afterwards we ate dinner with some friends in the courtyard of the Hyatt. The kids had fun running around, the adults got to chat, and Katherine got to pick the dessert.
That's a happy Pumpkin!

3rd Grade Concert

We had our 3rd and 4th grade concert last night. I got to be in the front row with my good buddies Phoebe, Jackson, and Brooklyn.

I also got to get up and do the twist with my buddies Brooklyn and Kion for one song. You can see us sing four songs here, if you're up to the challenge.

Bolsa Chica Wetlands Field Trip

The third grade took a field trip to the Bolsa Chica wetlands this week. I got to sit with my good buddies Phoebe and Tiana on the bus...
And hang out with them and Kira there. We saw pelicans, small sharks, sea hares, and egrets, and got to hike, collect rocks, and weave a rope.

Big Week for Kat

I got to say a thank you line in a little production we did at the thank you breakfast for volunteers. That's me holding the "T". It was fun, and Mom was proud of me.
But she was even more proud of me the next day when I won an award at the spirit assembly. I was so surprised when they called my name!

I got the citizenship award, and I also got an award for completing all of the 3rd grade math computer program.
Here's what my teacher, Mrs. Hepburn, wrote on the back of my citizenship award.
Mom yelled, "Yay, Pumpkin!"
As it turns out, it was also National Donut Day, so a reward for all my good work was in order.

Chewy's 12th Birthday

Chewy says, "I'm how old?!?!?"  Don't worry, it's only 84 in dog years.
He got to for a nice birthday walk to the park.  He likes lying in the shade with the wind blowing his ears.
And even though he doesn't really chase it anymore, he even carried his frisbee all the way there.
He got a cupcake that looked like him (but was eaten by us)...
We sang happy birthday, and helped him open some presents. Happy Birthday to our favorite FuzzBucket!

Day with Daddy

While Mom was at a baby shower we got to hang with Daddy. He took us to free comic book day at the comic store...
And to our favorite lunch, Wendy's!  Best.Dad.Ever!
