Aquarium Field Trip

Mom got to come with on Tommy's first grade trip to the Long Beach Aquarium!
She got the best/silliest group: Tommy's!
Ready to explore under the big blue whale!
They loved the penguins (don't worry, these ones weren't real).
They liked looking at the penguins' beaded armbands and finding out what their names were on the sign next to the tank.
Sharks were Tommy's favorite!
Look at that creepy sandtiger shark! It's coming right at them!!!
Everyone say: Shark!
They even got to pet some of the bamboo sharks.
They also got to touch some moon jellies...

The sea lions were fun to watch.
And Tommy made friends with a pufferfish.
And a porcupine pufferfish.
They liked the touchpool, and got to touch sea anemones, sea urchins, and sea stars.

This stingray was not small.
Neither was this grouper.
Last stop with the silly leafy sea dragons was the perfect ending to a super fun field trip.

Benihana Birthday

Our neighbor Olivia just had her birthday too!  They invited us to Benihana with them to celebrate. It was our first trip!
We liked watching the cook flip their knives around...
And catch shrimp tails in his hat.
But our favorite was the disco onion volcano!
Happy Birthday, Olivia!

Glowzone Birthday

Tommy decided he didn't want a big birthday party this year, he just wanted to go to Glowzone with Sam, Brady, and Colton. So we did!

We had lots of fun there sliding, playing on the ninja course, going on the bumper cars, through the laser maze...

And playing air hockey and video games.
And afterward we went out for frozen yogurt. Perfect! Happy Birthday, big 7 year old!

Slime Molds

Doesn't every 7 year old ask for a pet slime mold for their birthday? Tommy did. Meet Slimy McSlimerson, and Slimy McSlimerson 2.0 (they are cut from the same plasmodium).
Look at them grow!

After giving them oat flakes in their agar petri dishes and making them happy, we decided to test their smarts with Lego mazes.
Not too bad for an organism without a brain!
Don't worry, Chewy, you're still my favorite pet!

Volleyball and Water Polo

We've been having fun in our new sports. Tommy is taking Splashball, a precursor to water polo.

And I'm taking volleyball, and can even spike it over the net!

Making Krumkake

We helped Mom make krumkake with her new Krumkake Express machine she got for her birthday.
Her Grandma used to make it every Christmas, and now it'll be a new tradition for us!
It's a good thing she has us to help her make/sample it!

Sledding in Fargo

Our last day in town it was finally above 20 degrees! Mom took us to her favorite sledding hill growing up.
We tried the saucer and the toboggan, and both liked the toboggans better.
Ready, set, go!
Sledding is awesome!
Here's a little video of us throwing snow and conquering the dike west.

Fun in the Fargo Snow

Even though it was -8, we couldn't resist going out to play in the snow the first morning we were there.
We threw huge snowballs/ice chunks at each other...
Made snow angels...

And froze our eyelashes!
The next morning it was actively snowing!
We caught snowflakes on our tongues and mittens...
Made fresh tracks in the snow...
And did a little sledding down the piles the snowplows left. We were only out about 20 minutes each day before we froze, but it was a fun 20 minutes!
