We embarked on our first camping trip to Palomar Mountain with some friends last weekend. Not sure we could have fit much more in the car...
We came straight from the last day of school, so we were the last to arrive. On the way up Auntie Kimmy called and asked us to stop and buy mesh to put over our faces because the flies were so crazy. We thought SHE sounded crazy, but we did it anyway. But she wasn't crazy, the flies were! They would swarm your ears, eyes, and mouth if you didn't wear the little head net over your face. So we did.
But it wasn't without its problems. Mom forgot she was wearing it and tried to eat this carrot with dip on it. Yup, that's dip on her mesh hood in front of her mouth. Always smooth, Mom.
We set up camp, then found some walking sticks for a hike.
Walking sticks: ready!
The parents aren't as fun as us.
Except when you tell them to dab. Then they're kind of fun but mostly embarrassing.
Here's our camp set up...
The kids had fun running as a pack, setting a trap for a rabbit we saw, and keeping moving to get away from the flies.
We did some fishing, and Dad said I did a great job casting. No luck though.
Headlamps, glowsticks, and s'mores ensured that we didn't go to sleep until well past our bedtime.
Sadly, Tommy's fever kept coming back, and got worse our second day so we had to cut and run. But we got one night in, and I had so much fun that maybe we can even talk Mom into trying it again. Maybe.
