For the science fair this year I had to create a simple machine that could get a task done. I decided to make a piano book page turner. After I drew up my plans, Dad taught me to use the power drill...
And how to hammer something correctly.
Once things started coming together we decided we needed a counterweight, so that when you'd press the pedal with your foot the page would turn, and then when you took your foot off the pedal, it would reset. Here I am tying on the counterweight. There was a lot of trial and error to get the weight right, and to get the string that runs through the pulley the right length. I learned that I do NOT like trial and error.
But it turned out pretty cool!
Thanks for your help, Dad!
Here's a description of how it works, and of me celebrating being done with my buddies Sarina, Kaden, and Coulter at the science fair by goofing off and catching cheeseballs in my mouth:
Tommy did a diorama of a polar bear habitat, and a poster comparing 2 endangered species: the polar bear and the pangolin. Stay tuned for more on his love of pangolins.
