Science Fair

We had our open house and science fair last week. I got to show off my "The Need to Eradicate Erosion" project. I tested 3 samples (plain potting soil, soil with grass grown in it, and soil with cut grass put on top of it) to see which would withstand a rainstorm with the least amount of soil erosion. I put the runoff water in bottles to visually compare, and weighed the soil that came out. My teacher said I did a great job!
Tommy's class did STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) projects. Tommy's assignment was to design armor to protect one of his stuffed animals so it could survive in the wild. He made a helmet and protective armor breastplate for his chimp Hoo Hoo. He also gave it an extendable arm to help it swing on trees, gloves with extendable toothpick claws on one hand to dig for bugs, and shin guards so his legs could be protected and he could still use his feet to climb. Now his stuffed animal is ready to be released into the wild. Well, maybe not. I still think he should have built some robo-arms for Teddy.
