Easter 2019

We did some traditional Easter egg dying on Easter...
Fancy, right?
Then we made some Easter krumkake. Not exactly traditional, but why not?
This was my krumkake rolling dance.
We hunted for eggs and for our Easter baskets...

You can see one yellow egg hidden in the tire swing that I didn't even know was there!
Then after we'd had a bit of sugar we swung and deliberately knocked our Easter baskets over and laughed maniacally.

Sugar rush - complete!
After dinner it was time for some self portraits...

Some poses sucking in our nostrils...
And some general goofiness.

Spring Break at the LA Zoo

Our second day trip was to the LA Zoo. Hi flamingos!
We found an animal none of us had ever heard of before called a tomastoma. It's that big gator-looking thing with Tommy. He decided to do a report on it for school.
This peacock was just wandering around all fanned out.
So pretty!
I had a little chat with it.
Baby and mama spider monkey were so cute!
I had a cherry slushie for a snack and ended up with some dramatic lipstick.
We liked the bird show, and gave this parrot a dollar toward conservation.

But the river otters were our favorites again. They even followed our commands!
We spent our Easter money on this spider monkey and fennec fox. Fun!

Spring Break at Universal Studios

We decided to take a few day-trips over spring break, and the first one was to Universal Studios!
I got all decked out for Harry Potter World. Mom braided my hair the night before so it would be curly like Hermione's, I made a bracelet and painted my fingernails in my Hufflepuff house colors, black and yellow. And mom and I made potions necklaces. I also wore my time turner necklace and my Dumbledore's army necklace, and my Harry Potter spells shirt. I was READY!
We rode the studio tour first...
Then checked out the Mummy ride for the first time. Tommy is obsessed with Egyptian mythology these days so he was excited to take a picture with Isis and Anubis. But Anubis was kind of a joker, and kept dragging me in front of Tommy to block him in the picture. It was making me giggle.
Then Anubis started messing with Tommy's hair...
And eventually he wound up wearing my headband.

Here we are with some hieroglyphs at the entrance to the ride. We both liked it, even though it's a little scary. But we went back and rode it again at night, and I decided it's my new favorite ride!
After the Mummy, we ran into Frankenstein. He had fun spinning my time turner necklace...
And gave us a great pose for a picture.
Then it was time to put on our robes, get out our wands, and head to Harry Potter World!
The obligatory butter beer...
Tommy decided he might like it this time...
But his smile says not so much.
We always have a good time in Harry Potter world...
Riding Flight of the Hippogriff. Arms up, Tommy!
And watching the light show on the castle.
A successful spring break so far!

Renaissance Fair

We checked out the Renaissance Fair in LA this weekend. Tommy was an archer and I was a knight.
About 95% of the people there were dressed up. Mom and Dad were not among them.
We saw some blacksmiths in action, and got to feel some real swords.

We had fun watching the jousting.

Our knight won!

Tommy and Mom enjoyed their Renaissance big pickle...
And I opted for an over-sugared load of beignets.
We watched some shows with fire jugglers, and this guy who had fire whips!
But most importantly, we got to get our hands on some weaponry! We shot crossbows...

Here we are throwing axes too:
We weren't really naughty enough to be locked in the stockades, but they were good for some photos.

This was the least Renaissance part of the fair. Medieval virtual reality? Just look around you, people! You're in it!
