Quarantine: Week 3

Week 3, and we're still trying to come up with safe, fun stuff to do. We had a nice walk to the beach...
And entered the Orange County Scouts BSA "camp at home" photo challenge. Here's the photo we submitted...
We were one of 6 winners, and won a marshmallow shooter! We have to wait until they open up again to pick it up though. We moved the tent inside, and almost slept in it one night, until Tommy decided he was over it and went up to bed. Don't worry, it's still in the living room in case we change our minds.
Tommy's been busy preparing his new box of pranks for April Fool's Day. We're a little scared...
We decided to do some outdoor art to brighten up the neighborhood.

And Mom did a little computer art to make a birthday card for Auntie Kristine.
We've also been keeping in touch with friends and classmates through video chat, and chatted with Grandma and Grandpa (and Dexter) a few times too!
Mom had another happy hour with her college friends to preserve her sanity...
And Dad drank the biggest beer he could find to preserve his. Happy quarantining, everyone!

Second Week of Quarantine

Well, we're officially trapped in the house most of the time. We've been getting out for walks and bike rides, but no more basketball or hand ball at the park, and no more hikes through Bolsa Chica or down at the beach. It's all closed now. So we've had to get a bit creative with our time at home. Dad decided to make tortillas from scratch...
And they turned out sooooo good...
And made the yummiest chicken quesadillas EVER!
I tried a new adventure in baking, using fondant and some different techniques to make geode cupcakes, and even made the cupcakes and frosting from scratch!
They turned out really cool looking...
 And were yummy too!
We've done a few online art lessons. This one was with chalk pastels...
And this was just a picture we saw online and decided to recreate.
We've also had to embrace technology to interact with anyone outside our house. Tommy had a virtual piano lesson with his teacher...
And played virtual Battleship with his friend Owen.
But mostly we get on Messenger Kids, FaceTime, Zoom, or HouseParty and goon around with our friends. Not that you can tell, but that's me, Emily, and Sarah.
I like this one of Emily and me.
Here's Tommy and his friend Ryan.
This whole quarantine thing has really aged him, don't you think?

Double Secret Quarantine

We are now officially on "Safe at Home", meaning we are only supposed to leave to get food or medical attention. We have not needed any medical attention, and are not able to get much food because of all the panic buying. This is the pasta aisle at Albertsons. Crazy!
But we're still finding some stuff to do, other than the homework the district started posting. I took an online painting class.
 Such a cute little sloth!
Tommy opted to paint a monster from our DragonBox math app.
He also finished his Scouts "World of Sound" elective by building an African mbira.
Here's what is sounds like:
We're trying to stay positive (and goofy)...
And getting outside some. Dad got to play handball with us today.

This is as close as we can get to playing with the neighbors for now...
So we've mostly resorted to seeing our friends online through FaceTime and Messenger Kids.

Here we are with Robby and Lizzy having lots and lots of giggles.

Mom even got to have a little happy hour fun with her friends on Zoom. We'll conquer this quarantine yet!

Coronavirus Quarantine

Now that COVID-19 is sweeping the nation, and not in a good way, we have to start practicing social distancing. We got one last night out for dinner at Stacked before everything went south...

And then school was cancelled through April 20th, restaurants, theaters, and parks closed, and no play dates were allowed.  We've had to get creative at home. First I decided to make macarons...
They didn't all turn out, but these corona virus ones are actually pretty cute. Yummy, too!
For exercise we've been doing some "Just Dance' on the Wii. Here's Tommy doing his current favorite song "Vodovorot"

We've been to the park to play some handball and basketball a few times...
And after about 30 min we max out and either start messing with each other or cracking each other up. Tommy needs to NOT pull his pants up that high!
We worked on an escape room game we got for Christmas...

And built some instruments from around the world for one of Tommy's Scout adventures. Here's his Kenyan rain stick...
 And Egyptian sistern.

We also went on a hike through the Bolsa Chica wetlands, and played some bird Bingo. I won!
We saw this cute little bunny...
 This huge heron...
And this hawk on our back fence! Guess the wild life comes out when the people are all hiding inside.
Three days down! Soooooo many more to go!
