Hurricane Lane

Mom started getting these alerts on her phone about Hurricane Lane.
The forecast said it would miss us, but schools, businesses, and restaurants all shut down in anticipation. Which left us with very little to do.
We made some leis and colored a stuffed crab during our hotel's Hawaiian crafts time...
And at dinner that night in the hotel everything still looked beautiful.

But the rain was coming, and mostly the wind.
One of the big thatched umbrellas that was embedded in the concrete blew off during the night into the pool, along with about 20 big palm fronds.
Then to top things off, the winds knocked down a powerline and started a fire in Lahaina, just south of us. The hillside right across from our hotel was burning too. Power was out at our hotel from late that night until about 2:00pm the next day.
The hotel had a generator, but only ran it in the common area and ballroom where they were serving food, not in the rooms. Here's the charging station where everyone powered up.
Dad tried to keep us busy touring the hotel...
And wearing us out in the gym.
But we had the most fun when we found some friends to play Minecraft with.
The next morning someone had spelled out "Maui" in debris above the lawn contoured "Westin" sign, which gave us all a laugh.
From there we still had about 36 hours to enjoy Maui. Bring on the fun!
