Cast Iron Chef

Our Webelos den (plus Tommy) learned about food safety and how to build a fire. We planned a campfire meal, made edible campfires...
And ate them.
Then we shopped for all our ingredients and built a campfire fire in our backyard! We all got to try lighting a match...
And set up a tent while the fire burned down until it was ready for cooking.

First we roasted biscuits on a stick. For those who were really patient, they turned out pretty good. For most of us, they were brown on the outside and pure dough on the inside.
Dad put a grate over the fire...

And we cooked some carne asada for tacos. Mom was impressed, we chopped all the meat, onions, cilantro, and avocado, and built our own tacos.

And ate them in the tent, of course.

We even cleaned everything up. We definitely earned our cast iron chef adventure pin.
And no campfire meal is complete without s'mores.
By the point we were over all the smoke from the campfire though. So we put it out and used the gas fire pit instead. We're rugged, but we're also practical. So fun!
